Things that bring on symptoms of asthma are called triggers and generally lead to an asthma attack. There are many ways to lower and manage the large amount of triggers that bring about asthma and each person has a different typt of asthma.
Triggers that are indoors
Plants and flowers that are in your kitchen, bedroom and living room have pollen and bring about an asthma attack.
Mold and house dust mites can trigger an asthma attack:
must keep plants out and have a clean home
weekly wash in hot water all used sheets, bedspreads and pillowcases
your pillows and mattresses should have plastic covers
clean or replace air filters on a regular interval
stuffed animals are not good items to keep in the house
even though bare floors are the best to have, carpets need steam cleaned on a regular basis
Your pets like dogs and cats can trigger an attack:
I hate to say this but maybe not having one of these pets may be the best choice
if you already have a cat or dog keep them clean and out of the bedroom
the hair from these pets need to be controlled
best if pet is kept outside
Potent smelling odors sometimes bring on an asthma attack:
avoid using baby powder
a commercial term of hypoallergenic used to describe soaps, lotions, perfumes, make-up and odor free shampoos.
Insects like cockroaches can cause asthma attacks:
instead of pesticides use roach motels or bait made from gels
important to eat only at the dinner table
fill crevices and cracks in and around mainly the kitchen
Cigarette smoke and smoking can cause an asthma attack:
avoid cigarette smoke all the time
stop smoking or smoke only outdoors
if family members do smoke then they must not smoke in the house at all even when the person with asthma is not home
Triggers that are outdoors
Changes in the weather trigger asthma attacks:
just breathing in air that is cold can cause attacks
dress according to the weather conditions
your doctor or healthcare provider must be involved in managing the asthma
Pollen is something that people are allergic to which is called an allergen. Many different kinds of pollen are in the air the year round:
trees make the most pollen during March thru June
grasses produce a lot of pollen May thru June
weeds is most productive August thru September
If you like outdoor activities you probably should be taking allergy medicine prescribed by your healthcare provider before you get involved. This is pretreat and could prevent many asthma symptoms.
Another varmit is pollution which is everywhere you go. Vapors, dirt and smoke are released into the air from trucks, cars and factories. This pollution are pollutants that will aggrevate your airways and bring on an asthma attack:
stay away from areas congested with dirt, dust and smoke
keep alert for warnings of smog, vog and heavy pollution
replace or clean your air conditioners, heaters and humidifiers filters which will allow only clean air released into your home
Additional triggers
Colds or flus are infections produced by viruses and they can increase the severity of asthma
wash your hands often to stop getting and spreading the viruses

water, drink five to six cups for a youngster and eight to ten cups for an adult
to fight the flu get a flu shot every year
check with the doctor to see if you can use a humidifier and if you can be sure to keep it very clean
Strong emotions can cause an attack. When you are upset, under stress or feel angry give these a try:
breathe in through your nose a deep breath and exhale through your mouth
speak with a trusting adult and explain your frustrations
do what works for you to relax
or just try counting to ten
It can be a scary episode when you feel an asthma attack is coming on. However, the first thing you want to do is relax
During your sleep at night the airways can become narrow and amass mucous which is very common.
